A very happy group of boaties at the winery!

Firstly, realise that we are on the Saale River, not Salle
as I wrote yesterday. Quite surprised to have rain for much of the night, but
it had cleared by this morning although very muggy. Guess who left their chairs
out overnight!!!! Household chores this morning including some hand washing before
getting the bikes out. Found a really nice circular route that took us along
the Saale and through some small villages, quite a bit of it was on the road
but it wasn’t too busy and motorists were respectful of cyclists. Such
beautiful countryside but it was overcast and quite hazy after the rain.
A company operates a boating trip down the Saale and we saw
so many inflatables and canoes just cruising down, with not much paddling
required as the river has a very good flow. People waved out to us on our bikes
and called out to us but really had not idea what they were saying, we just
smiled and waved to them.
We passed a vineyard and in the neighbouring little village
they not only had tastings but beers and lunches. Just perfect. And a lot of
the boats had pulled in and they were having liquid refreshments as well. We
got chatting to a large group of “boaties” for quite some time and they spoke
reasonable English. It was so interesting to hear about what they did in this
area and also about their parents who lived through the GDR. We appreciated
being able to chat with locals. They were having a great day out and enjoying
one or two…or more wines!!!
We eventually got back on our bikes and tootled back to
camp. A thoroughly enjoyable day. This really is such an idyllic camp and we
sat outside on the grassed area beside the river enjoying the perfect weather,
along with many of the other campers.
