Big dairying country after leaving Stavanger

What a cracker of a day we have had, some of the most diverse scenery of all our travels and a clear sunny blue sky to boot…doesn’t get better.

Slept well in our street parking last night….a first for this trip. Left the city on the E39, a busy two lane road and before long we turned onto a lesser road, the E44 to take us around the coast. This was prime dairying country with huge barns and mown fields, all so neat and tidy. And then the coast came into view, what a backdrop. After quite some time much more rocky land appeared with many stone fences and big boulders and then we started on a windier road with solid rock hills. We wound up and down with beautiful lakes in amongst the rocks before we arrived at Egersund where we were found a motorhome park not far from town. Such a beautiful small town, beside a harbour, with lots of boats that kept Ian happy!. We meandered into town, just so quaint with cobbled streets and wooden houses and a very upmarket centre. There is something about Scandinavian design, the simplicity and quality of it. Found a really nice café and sat out on the street in the sun for lunch. What a treat.

I could see by the map that the next stretch of road looked rather interesting with lots of windy roads and hairpin bends…..and it certainly was. It was a slow drive as much was barely two lanes and care was needed going around corners…at one stage Ian had to reverse to allow a car to pass. But he did a grand job and we survived without any scratches. The views were amazing, although I was probably the only one that appreciated them…Ian was too busy concentrating.

Found this great spot on P4N, at a small marina, although Jilly had a few issues finding it as we had to turn off through a tunnel! But it was worth the effort. We went for a wander around the marina and into the village, just so quaint. Discovered a sign outside the cemetery …”Commonwealth War Graves” and had a good look around but couldn’t find any commemorative plaques but have since done a google search and found that two UK servicemen where buried here following their death on 26th April, 1945.

Ian was most impressed with this table.

Egersund

Rocks ...and more rocks.

Stunning images from start to finish Meg. The "needs work" photo reminiscent of your image of Anya outside the old house along the road at Lake Tarawera.xJen
