Friday July 29, Feda

The photo above is in memory of Rob Dollimore who passed away this morning in Wanaka. Rob was a long-time resident at Lake Tarawera, a very skilled gunmaker, one of life’s characters and a good friend. I had the honour to photograph him in 2015 in his workshop, and I think this really shows Rob’s personality, he was very proud of this photo. Tonight, we are having a whiskey (or two) in memory of a Rob. RIP

Early morning fishermen

…..The joys of travelling without an itinerary…. Woke to another beautiful day, and this is such a peaceful place that we have stayed another night!

There were about 12 campervans here last night, most left today but it is full again tonight. We went for a good walk this morning through the small village to the Co-op to pay our camping fee and picked up some bread for lunch. The houses in the town are really quaint, most are painted white and there are lots of white picket fences!. No one seems to be in a hurry. Took my camera out for a rather enjoyable wander this afternoon. And sat out in the sun with our books…a most pleasant and rather lazy day, but making the most of the weather.  We are starting to notice the shorter days as we head further south and also it is about 6 weeks since the summer solstice. Norwegians are still on school holidays until 20th August.

The "neighbour" with his nice Pollack.

A room with a view tonight!

Thanks for your note re Rob Dollimore Meg.

Wonderful images,"all about the light" and an enchanting village. I had a good wander all around it on Google Earth. So pretty and peaceful looking.

Your second image looks like some of yours from Lake Tarawera Meg. And why not stay another day, seems sensible to have a rest day in such stunning surrounds.
