Discovery time!

Leaving London yesterday morning proved to be not so simple. We were all packed up waiting outside the hotel for the 10am pickup by the taxi, and we waited and waited. More people were gathering outside the hotel waiting for their rides but the traffic was at a standstill. Finally, just after 11 our taxi arrived, the poor chap had taken almost 30 minutes to move a hundred metres and the whole trip had taken well over an hour longer. Turned out that the underground workers were on strike! Guessing a lot of people tyring to get to the airport would have missed their flights.

Anyway, once we cleared the traffic it was a good trip up to Boston, and once again Kathy and Steve had the welcome mat out for us. When we left in September 2019 they were in the middle of planting and landscaping their large garden, and we couldn’t believe how fabulous it is all looking, with expanses of lawn bordered with shrubs and trees and a number of garden rooms.

Then it was off to collect Ruakiwi, and she is looking great, and no dampness thankfully. K&S had been keeping an eye on her and replaced bowls of salt to absorb any moisture. The guys at the storage yard had put 4 new tyres on and also checked and replaced bulbs and a few other bits and pieces and they took her for an MOT, and all successful.  Both of us were feeling very nervous as we followed Steve through the busy centre of Boston and back home, but all went without a hitch…whew. Some things had fallen out of cupboards when the guys had shifted her, so set to and cleaned it up before knocking off for the night, travel had caught up with us.

Big day yesterday, I got all our bags unpacked and remade the bed. When Covid came and Kathy realised how long we were going to be absent she took the mattress and all the linen and clothes out of the van and after washing everything stored them in a warm storage area, so grateful. Went grocery shopping with K&S and stocked up with all the basics.

Ian got all the gas and water systems going without issues, and then took everything out of the storage areas and discovered many things he had forgotten he had! It’s really feeling like home again. And finished the day with a drive out in the country for a meal at a local pub. A perfect finish.

Ian came down with a head cold on Sunday and has very kindly passed it onto me, tested but definitely not Covid.

Such a beautiful outlook.
