A quiet street in Eltmann with beautiful flowers in the street. |
Have had a little bit of retail
therapy today. For those that know me…and my feet, will understand how
difficult it is to get comfortable shoes in New Zealand. I discovered three
years ago in Germany that certain brands of their shoes fit me really well and
bought a few pairs. They have been thrashed to death and I “needed” to get some
more summer shoes. Found a shoe store on our route today and picked up a really
nice pair of sandals on sale, and then this afternoon when we walked into the
village of Eltmann discovered a really nice shoe store with their summer shoes
on sale. So now have three pairs of really nice and comfortable shoes for just
over €100!
We found a really nice spot in
this village right on the Main River which is free and is perhaps that is the
reason that there are so many here, counted over 25! We were lucky to get a
good spot to park when another van pulled out just after we arrived. After a
late lunch it rained for several hours so feet up with our books until it
stopped. We walked into the small village (and found my shoes!) and stopped to
talk to some ladies sitting out on the kerb in front of a really nice garden.
Said hello and discovered one of the older ladies spoke a little English after
spending time in Canada with her sister. She invited me to see her garden in
the courtyard of her 400 year old house where she has lived for the past 50
years. Such a delightful lady, very well educated, her son is a professor now
in a Canadian University. Helen chatted for ages and then asked me how old I
thought she was, I said 80 but she proudly said she was 92. What a delightful
lady.
Walking back to the van and we
met a woman smiling at us and she said they had seen our sign and were from
Australia. Vicki and Dean are like us, travelling in their German motorhome
that they bought the same year as we bought ours. They travel six months of the
year in Europe, a bit longer than us! We had a great evening chatting over
drinks and sharing our adventures and places we have visited. Love these sort
of get togethers, often when no one in the campground speaks English you really
do feel like the odd one out!
