The old wooden bridge at Wangen an der Aare

After the last few days of such extremely amazing scenery, today has been a little more “ordinary”, although still very beautiful.
Woke to clear skies and a misty lake which soon cleared. We wandered into Brienz, and the temperature was perfect with a gently breeze off the lake. Brienz is very much a holiday town sitting on the lake with many hotels and guest houses. Very much traditional styling with dark stained wood, ornate fascia’s and once again geranium’s bedecking the veranda’s. Popped into the co-op store for bread and a few bits and pieces and very glad we weren’t doing a big shop, Switzerland is expensive.
Packed up and by late morning we were on the road to a parking spot on the Aare River at Wangen an der Aare. Decided to use the motorway for a start as we didn’t want to be held up around Bern. Soon after we took a lesser road which turned out to be a goodie taking us through a peaceful farming valley. Barley was being harvested and hay getting made, and such quaint villages.
Arrived at Wangen, and the spot was right on a wide fastly flowing river, it was a warm afternoon and people were floating down the river on noodles. Had a late lunch then I wandered over a covered bridge and into town for a look around. Such a pretty little place with buildings dating back to the 1600’s.
We needed to exchange our German Propane bottle which we had finished 3 weeks ago and had been unable to refill in Italy or Germany. As we were so close to Germany decided to hop across the border for a few days. What was to be an hour’s drive took much longer with so many roadworks and it was almost 6 oclock when we arrived at a particularly nice Stellplatz close to the Rhine River. Great facilities. The afternoon had turned quite hot, reaching over 30 degrees so we soon had the chairs out in the shade and a cold one opened.
After last night storm, the lake was so peaceful

Typical houses in Brienz

The tourist boat scoots around the lake to some of
the small villages around the shore.

So loved this wood carving,
top dog I think it should be
called!

These houses are huge, would love to see inside them.

Beautiful Aare River

Gate entrance into the old town.
