Sunday May 26th, Montefiascone
A dismal Umbria morning. |
I am sitting writing tonight with
the heater going and steady rain falling on the roof, just as it has been for much
of the last 24 hours and tomorrow is much the same and only slightly better for
Tuesday. Wednesday is looking good so really are dawdling along and planning to
arrive at a campground near Rome on Tuesday afternoon ready for a visit to the
city.
Tonight we are parked in what appears to be quite a nice town, but somehow
putting coats on and umbrellas to investigate holds no charm. This is a free
camping spot with electricity beside a co-op company selling local products
direct, wine, oil, cheese and pasta. Visited this afternoon and the older lady
who served us spoke some English. She said she had never ever know such a cold
and wet spring….grrrrr! Friends we have met on our travels are currently in
Sicily and they are experiencing much the same.
So, we are making the best of it.
This morning we had a few finer patches as we took a lesser road through the Umbrian
hills, such beautiful green countryside, lots of vines and fields planted in
wheat. There would have been great views but everything was so misty. We
followed SS71 as it wound up to 500 metres before dropping down into the valley
and rising up again. The road surface was really good, and there was very
little traffic so it was quite enjoyable.
Photos today are almost non-existent.
Will see what tomorrow brings, yet to decide where we will go.
Will see what tomorrow brings,
yet to decide where we will go. Have just gone through my diary and out of the
19 days since we left Conny and Hitten’s, 14 have had rain and we have had 5 days
without any rain!!!
Old towns dotted around the landscape. |
