Monday October 8, Sant Pere Pescador…day trip to Cadaques
Really enjoying staying in a campground for a few days, the
first since we were at Lake Annecy back in July. Great facilities including a
beautiful pool and wonderfully clean ablution blocks, and decent size sites. The
sun was shining this morning but it was definitely a bit cooler. Had a good
clean up before joining Conny and Hitten in their van and off to Cadaques, a half
hour drive. This small village is one of their favourite places, they have been
coming here for 40 years and we can understand why. The road into this
beautiful old fishing village winds up through the olive covered mountains
before getting a view of the white washed houses nestled around the cove down
below us. Just breathtaking. Hitten parked in a carpark on the outskirts of
town, few vehicles are allowed through town. We walked down to the waterfront
and my camera was “very busy”. There is such a relaxed feel about the town,
which was the home of Salvador Dali for many years. We walked around the bay
and out to the point, the water is so clear and a real turquoise colour. Boats
are dotted throughout the bay. Evidently during the high season it is full of
boats…and people, perfect timing for us with very pleasant temperatures and a
nice breeze.
Found a really nice bar right on the sea shore for a relax,
a beer and some yummy tapas. Off on foot again in the other direction, great
having such good “guides”. They took us up the narrow winding cobbled streets
to the cathedral and a great view over the bay before walking around to a point
on the other side of town. Both Ian and I felt we could spend a long time here,
with it’s little shops and cafes and laid back atmosphere. It reminds me of
photos I have seen of the Italian Coast. Regulations have made sure that the
town retains its charm, the houses are all white washed with terracotta roofs.
And to end a perfect day we shared a jug of sangria – a first
for us, and loved it, then pizzas at C & H’s favourite pizzeria. It was
dark as we returned home, the weather was changing, there were rain spots on
the window which signalled the start of the predicted heavy rain over the next
few days.
Lots of photos from Cadaques today!!!
