Friday October 12, Montans

So many tree lined roads on our drive today through rural France.

A bit of a catch up today, yesterday was our last full day with Conny and Hitten, so blogging didn’t happen!!!
We had a day driving through the Pyrenees popping between France, then Spain again before back into France. The weather was wonderful as we left Prats-de-Mollo and drove up over the pass and amazing views. Noticing the autumn colours starting to show in the trees and shrubs, they will be at their peak in a few weeks.
We passed through Puigcerda before climbing once again over the Col du Puymorens at 1900 metres and stunning views. In the distance a fresh dusting of snow on the higher peaks. We dropped down close to the border of Andorra to our overnight stop at a very nice little municipal camp at Merens. Very surprised to see lilac coloured crocus flowering in the grass, normally they are a spring flower. We had a great evening sitting outside as it was still surprisingly warm.
Pyrenees views for miles.

We have so enjoyed our days with Conny and Hitten but this morning it was time to say goodbye, until next time as they headed towards the Mediterranean and we meandered our way north, taking the minor roads that passed through many rural areas and small towns. Such a contrast to when we were in France several months ago, the crops have almost all been harvested and the fields all ploughed up. And the wonderful yellow sunflowers are all dried off, looking very unappealing as they wait to be harvested.

Passing east of Toulouse we ended up in the wine growing region of Gaillac and a French Passion winery in the small town of Montans, where the harvest is almost finished. Sampled some very nice wines before having a lazy evening. The days are really getting shorter, it is almost dark now by 7.30.  Not sure that I am enjoying the arrival of Autumn!!

Rather sad looking sunflowers
