Hanging out in Gibraltar

There comes a time when reality hits and it is time to start looking at the calendar and checking where we need to be at certain dates so that we will be ready to fly home mid-November, and that was today. It was a bit of a wake up as we realised that we still had a lot of things to see and a lot of km’s to travel. Decided to have a day on the motorways and head to Gibraltar, a place we wanted to see and also heard of a good marina to stay on.
It was onto the A22 just out of Faro and after an hour we left Portugal and back in Spain and onto a non-toll road. Lots of little settlements dotted in the hills, the buildings are all white with terracotta roof’s. We were soon into more fertile country with huge areas of oranges and amazed to see vast areas growing cotton which was being harvested. We don’t normally like driving motorways but found todays trip very interesting as such varied scenery.
Although the motorway took us right around Seville we had decided to give it a miss and when we got caught up in gridlock traffic we were rather pleased! Then it was South to Gibraltar. The scenery really changed with large areas of farmland, rather dry and arid but we saw quite large numbers of cattle, sheep and goats.
After 400kms and 4 ½ hours driving we arrived ….and what a magnificent place. We are parked looking directly at the large marina, with great views of Gibraltar. And there was a really good breeze with temperatures of 22 degrees. Couldn’t be better. Had a long chat with a British couple who are living on a yacht, they have been enjoying the Mediterranean for several years but now with Brexit they have had to rethink their plans, and are heading to Portugal to take up citizenship before they are looked out.
Think we will spend the weekend here, have a good look around and enjoy some R&R.
This bridge is all scaffolded and
being sandblasted.

Seville and thanks to Jilly for getting us around.

...and gridlock traffic

Cotton fields
There is a lot of bull around here!

..and plenty of goats

The Rock of Gibraltar lit up at night, the cloud
looked really weird, maybe it is the British weather!!!
