Monday August 27, Just north of Bermeo

A gorgeous sunset

It’s been 6 weeks since we crossed the channel and today we finally saw the ocean again, it felt so good to smell the sea air. Our drive this morning took us north east through the mountains with a stop in Lemoa where I spotted a Lidl store to pick up a few things. Just about to drive in and saw that there was a bar over the entrance with a height of 3 metres. We are just a tad over and probably would have got under but played it safe and found a spot to park beside the road not far away. Popped back to get some bread and a few extras then we were on our way north again. Using my favourite app Park4night I found a pullover place with a good view of the water for our lunch stop, and it also had a great view looking down on the town of Bermeo and it’s big port with lots of fishing vessels.
Tomorrow we are going to Bilboa where there is an excellent spot for campers overlooking the city but evidently you need to be quite early to get a spot. We wanted to find a place to camp tonight that was not too far away. Found a parking area just north of Bermeo, right on the coast and the app said it had great views. Well we fell on our feet. High up on the cliff with views out over the ocean. Perfect, except for some annoying power lines running across our view! We arrived reasonably early and had a really relaxing afternoon enjoying taking it all in and chatting to a number of other campers, including a Spaniard who spoke English, an English couple and then some young German travellers who had spent almost a year in New Zealand. The police drove up and around making sure there was no trouble and then departed, we certainly have noticed a much bigger police presence in Spain compared with France. There is such a relaxed atmosphere, just lots of fellow travellers enjoying a really nice quiet spot and a great sunset.
Our lunchtime view.

A great spot for dinner.
