Saturday July 21 Pont de Mousson, France

Aggresive white swan at camp, protecting cygnet.
Another day with three countries within an hour, and now we are back in France, feels like we are really on holiday now! Decided that we would put some km’s under our belt today as we head south. Said our farewells although hoping we will catch up with Conny and Hitten in France or Spain. We were on the road soon after 9. Hitten gave me excellent directions and we had a dream trip along the Autobahns and main highways. With the holidays just starting we were expecting the roads to be very busy but the traffic was surprisingly light as we drove through rural Germany. Rolling farmland, forests and small quaint villages tucked into the valleys. And just so blissful with the aircon working perfectly.
Our route took us through Luxembourg with Hitten suggesting we should fill our tanks up before leaving as their fuel prices are the lowest in Europe, Luxembourg evidently has lower excise taxes. And every other person on the road was doing the same thing! There were numerous lanes to fill up and payment was made at a booth before leaving. A very slick operation.
Crossed into France and we finally hit the traffic. There were motorhomes, caravans and cars filled to the brim with luggage.  We travelled south on the A31, around Metz before turning off to Pont de Mousson where I had found a very nice campsite at a marina on the Moselle River. It was a very good option as needed to plug into electric tonight to give the new batteries a good 12 hour charge.
After a 5 hour drive it was good to sit in the shade with a cold beer and a late lunch. Had a very lazy afternoon with a wee siesta then watched the end of today’s stage of the Tour de France. Appreciating having it working again. Needed some exercise before we had a late dinner so walked into the centre of town, over the bridge from camp. A very typical French town with a cobbled town square although felt it didn’t have much charm, but the campspot overlooking the marina is really peaceful.
