Wednesday May 3 – Keukenhof Gardens
Felt much refreshed this morning after a good 10 hours catch
up sleep. It rained quite a bit overnight but by morning it had cleared,
although a very grey sky and by mid-morning it was only 7 degrees when we
headed off to the Keukenhof Gardens.
These gardens are only open from mid-March to
mid-May and they showcase spring flowering bulbs especially tulips. I was a
little concerned that the peak of the flowering might be over but what we saw
was just amazing. The tulips were at their peak with about 7 million bulbs
planted throughout the 79 acre garden. It was utterly breathtaking with
streams, lakes and huge trees just getting their spring growth underplanted
with vast beds of tulips. The wide paths that meander through the grounds were
full of tourists. Evidently on Sunday they had 80,000 visitors. But somehow it
was very peaceful as everyone was just soaking up the beauty.
Ian and I wandered around for several hours then returned to
the van for a lunch break. He decided to put his feet up while I returned for
another few hours and enjoyed trying to capture the beauty with my camera –
just as everyone else was! Very hard to get photos without people in them.Apologies for so many photos of tulips, but they were just amazing.
Returned to the same camp for another night, it has been a
great first day on the road.
Once again, I am having issues with data on the road which
means that loading the blog might be a bit intermittent for a while, hopefully
when we get to France will sort something better out there.
A little bit of play with double exposures! |
