Monday September 5, Andalsvag to Holm

Bronnoysund from the bridge..on such a perfect day
The sun came out this morning and all day we had blue skies, not a breath of wind and it felt really warm, although the truck only registered about 12 degrees. After another broken night watching the Northern Lights surprisingly we were up at a reasonable time. We were only 5 minutes from the next ferry and in fact could see the ferry coming across so knew when we had to leave! It was just a 20 minute trip from Andalsvag to Horn then we had a really pleasant trip through a lot of fertile farming land. There were much bigger barns and these properties looked really prosperous. We did a detour from the main highway into  Bronnoysund a rather nice town especially on a sunny morning. Fuelled up, and spotted a waste dump so emptied out and topped up the fresh water before a stop at the store to get some fresh supplies.
Called into the local information centre and she was most helpful, unlike a few that we have been into on this trip. We took the scenic drive out to the end of the peninsula through more good looking farm land but nothing spectacular. Came back into town and parked near the harbour and brewed up the coffee pot for a lunch break.
We were both feeling a little weary, maybe it was the warmth or just the broken night but thought we would look for a spot to make an early stop, but no luck and before we knew it we were at the next (and sixth) ferry of this coastal highway. Had about an hour’s wait, then a really pleasant 20 minute trip across to Holm. We sat out on the deck and watched the scenery, it was just so warm.
Had been looking on Google Earth and saw what looked to be a little side track between the road and the water and not far from the terminal, and sure enough, about 2 kms along the road we found it. A really perfect spot, just off the road, with some trees and overlooking the fjord. The sun was pouring in and it was time to get the shorts out. Ian walked down to the rocks and fished, he got a cod but put it back in again. I made use of the early finish and sunshine and did a bit of handwashing then gave Ruakiwi a bit of a spruce up inside. We put the chairs out and just enjoyed relaxing in the sun, seems like this is the first time on the trip that we have had such beautiful weather and been able to sit out and enjoy it.We are making the most of these rather remote campspots beside the water as we know that soon we will be hunting around in towns for places to stay.
Today has been a pretty low key relaxed one, not much in the way of photos. Wondering if there will be more Northern Lights tonight…will be out looking!
In the queue for the first ferry of the day.
