Wednesday August 31st, Near Skarberget to Setsa, Norway

Waiting for the ferry....catching up on some research!

Rain, rain and more rain, it never let up all day. Always feel disappointed in days like this when you really can’t see all the fabulous things you are passing through, but with the forecast not that flash for the next few days, there was no point hanging about and waiting for it to improve. Mind you we were in no hurry to get out of bed, very comfortable hearing the rain on the roof and a good book!
We had about a 20-minute drive to the ferry which leaves from Skarberget to Bognes, which is actually part of the E6 route. Came around the corner to see it just leaving so we sat very comfortably on the wharf in the pouring rain for almost 2 hours waiting for the next scheduled departure. The little man came around to collect the money – 310Kr or approx. NZ$50 for the 25-minute crossing. We went upstairs and enjoyed some comfortable seats for the trip. They had a café on board serving coffee and filled rolls and sandwiches which seemed to be pretty busy, but the joys of travelling like a snail, we didn’t have to bother.
After getting off the ferry, Ian turned the gas back on and noticed that the bottle we had started using the other day was empty and we needed to use the one we had just refilled. Not sure what is going on but will get it sorted before we continue much further as planning on taking the coastal route south and there are no big towns for quite a distance.
Pulled into a service centre to fill our fresh water tank and Ian found that he couldn’t shift the gear lever into Park…oops! So left it in neutral and kept it running while he did the fill and continued south, still in the pouring rain. There were waterfalls running everywhere but just too wet for photos. And I lost count of the tunnels we went through, but guessing at close to 20, the longest was over 4 km’s.
We continued onto Fauske, and Ian parked near a garage and turned Ruakiwi off, not sure if he could restart it in neutral, but all was fine, whew we are still mobile. It was after 5 so decided to head a bit further south to a large parking area surrounded on three sides by the sea just past Setsa where we had stopped for lunch on our way north. Obviously a popular spot as we have neighbours tonight…about 5 other campers, and the price is right…free!
Tomorrow we will go back into Fauske and sort out the gear issue as well as getting organised with the gas. Just another day on the road!!
Very few photos today, not good visibility!

Mouth open, waiting for us
Very impressed with the on board lounge
The rained eased and grabbed a shot of tonight's "camp city"!

..and a peak at some boat sheds.

Still raining Lyn Davidge...I think you will hear the whoops of joy back in NZ when the sun does come out!

Great to hear from you Alan...the weather hasn't played its part lately for some great images though!
