Allah Ali, a wood carver in a co-op gallery in Jerome....quite a character!

After a really enjoyable evening we slept well in our “Workshop” campground. I had a big stack of laundry to do and had planned to visit the town laundry, but then Ian, very wisely suggested that the Camelot Camp may well have a laundry!!!! So spent the morning getting that done while they finished the job and we were back on the road late morning. This was just a good old fashioned service centre that did the job properly and Ruakiwi is running like a dream. You won’t find a computer in this place, but they knew what they were doing.
Finally we were on the road again and headed up the hill to Jerome, a copper mining town that was in it’s heyday in the late 1800’s, with homes built on a very steep hill. But by the 1950’s it had very few residents. Now it has become quite an arts centre as well as a tourist destination, and the narrow winding streets are full of tourist type stores. Apart from all the people we did enjoy walking around the streets.

We continued up the extremely windy road to 7000 feet before dropping down to Prescott.
The weather is changing with wind gusts and snow predicted just north of us in Flagstaff and the temperatures are plummeting. We came across a camp ground at the Prescott County Fairgrounds, a large number of other campers are here too, seems to be a good place to stay with what is predicted to be quite a stormy night.
