Monday 7 October, Still in Cottonwood

6 lads on a batchelor trip enjoying the sunset!

We have booked 3 nights here and really pleased as it is such a great campground, it is good to be elevated a bit and getting some breeze, it’s been a hot day.
Set off this morning through Sedona, and wow what a setting in amongst the Red Rocks, and really impressed that the majority of houses and business premised are built in the adobe style and very similar colours…it could well be a city ordinance. Stopped for some info at the visitor centre before heading north along the Oak Creek Canyon. It was a great drive through a rocky gorge, the road was really busy and there were very few pull off spots, most not big enough for the RV, but we stopped at the Slide Rock State Park. Back in the 1920’s the farmer had managed to work out a water system to irrigate his 70 acres which he planted in apples, and today there are about 400 apple trees in the park, and only one of the original trees remain. We walked up into the hills and were able to see some of the original water system. The highlight for many of the visitors (not us!) was a natural rock slide in the river, they were queuing to have a go but by the sound of the screams the water was pretty cold.
Driving into Sedona

Enjoying Slide Rock State Park

This little chap was well camoflagued.

I had been really keen to have a good look around Sedona and the galleries, but got extremely frustrated, the town was really really busy and we looked everywhere but could not find a parking area for RV’s, parking appears to be at a premium as there is very little flat land and loads of tourists. So had to continue on without stopping…a tad frustrating,  but really enjoyed the fabulous views as we took a scenic route out of town and back to Cottonwood. Walked around the old town, Ian even found a good Antique shop, before heading back to camp.

Liked this....a sign of the times!

Stunning clouds

Tonight there was another of those vibrant sunsets. The neighbouring campers are a group of 6 lads from LA away for a 9 day batchelor trip, and they climbed on top of the camper for a photo, they were having a blast.
