Saturday, October 5, Walmart, Flagstaff, AZ

Downtown Flagstaff Brew Pub

Yes, we are at another Walmart, maybe we should be calling this the Walmart tour of the South West!. Were late leaving Page as we chatted with another couple from UK, and shared stories with them.
We enjoyed the drive south from Page through Navajo country, although not as scenic as some of the other places we have been into in the last few days. We meandered down and thought we would try a forest camp just north of Flagstaff. We were quite excited to find the gates still open but no luck. Spoke with the camphosts who were still there, evidently they were open until Thursday and had been told that they would not be closing, but later that day the direction came through to shut the camp, and they are leaving tomorrow.  They suggested driving into forest land across the road and finding a spot, but it was pretty rough and dusty so flagged that.
Arrived at the Visitors Centre in town, and as we have found everywhere it was bedlam. There was no hotel accommodation left and the RV parks were full, so the next best thing was Walmart.
The highlight though was the old historic downtown Flagstaff on Route 66, thoroughly enjoyed walking around the streets and seeing some of the old buildings. Capped it off with a beer and dinner in a local brew pub, most enjoyable, before heading back to our “camp”!
Tomorrow we are off to Sedona, there are no Walmart’s there so hoping for better luck. We heard today that the State Parks in the area are all full.
No red rock photos today….they are all of downtown Flagstaff.
Route 66 memorabilia everywhere!
