Saturday July 9, Deming

It’s been a most relaxing day, and the weather has been warm and sunny. Had a look at a few of the shops in Fairhaven before we left, especially a fantastic gallery featuring original quality work from artists and craftspeople from all over the US. Probably one of the best we have been in.

Then it was onto the Farmers Market in the centre of town and it was great, lots of stalls and people everywhere. Picked up some good fresh produce and some yummy ciabatta bread for lunch.

More supplies and chores at the supermarket before heading about 10 miles out of town to the Logging Show Grounds where they were having a weekend of wood carving, saw mills and associated stalls. Heard about it yesterday at the information centre, and as you can imagine Ian was delighted. They also had and onsite camping ground in a wonderful mown area, very sunny and open, and not many people staying, a great place for us for the night.

They had a number of small sawmills working, which kept Ian occupied for some time! The chainsaw carvers were really skilled and one guy in particular was producing spectacular work. Then all the carvings were put up for auction, fascinating what people were paying for them, and some really went very cheaply.

So pleasant this evening sitting in the sun and have been invited to join the neighbours after dinner.
