Wednesday June29, Powell River BC

We had an earlier start this morning as needed to be at the garage before 9 to get the parts of the generator fitted. Great guys and they got straight onto it and in less than 2 hours were on the road with a new fuel pump and filter for the generator. Seems like it is finally all sorted, have given it a good test run and works like a new one.

Stopped in town for supplies at one of the better Walmart stores we have been to. It was very new and really well stocked with a full supermarket including excellent fresh fruit and vegetables. Have some nice looking asparagus and bok choy for dinner tonight.

Took the express way south to Comox for the ferry across to Powell River on the mainland. Had to queue for over an hour and a half but a good chance for a late lunch as we waited.

Then on the ferry for the 1 ½ hour trip across the Strait of Georgia. We have really enjoyed the past 12 days exploring the island, a really interesting place with lots of quaint and quirky communities.

They call this the sunshine coast and we will need to take 2 more ferries over the next few days as we head south to Vancouver. Hear that it is a very “artsy” area so we will see. Found a very good municipal campsite right in town with a great site only a few metres from the beach, a good spot to boat watch. Quite windy tonight and the sky looks a bit stormy. And for once, being over 60 had its advantages as they deducted $3 off the price of the site!

…Later. Had a really interesting sun set and had a lot of fun with a large blue heron as he was fishing in the shallows. The wind has dropped, hopefully the weather is settling.
