Sunday June 12, Anacortes

It has been the most wonderful relaxed time, just being able to spend time with everyone, lots of laughs, lots of talk and lots of reminiscing.

We have been spoilt with such great food from Sherry, lots of fresh fruits and salads and such good quality meat and fish. And the weather has been kind, pleasantly warm, although Sue and Ian from Atlanta where temps are in the mid 30’s at the moment would like it a bit warmer! And there has been no rain.

Terry has a hummingbird feeder outside the dining room window and I have been utterly fascinated to watch these tiny little birds dart in to get their sugar syrup. The wings are beating so fast, that you cannot see them. Had a play with the camera on the tripod this morning and got some shots, still not the best, but will keep trying.

Ian and Terry decided to go to Camping World and get some bits for Ruakiwi and fit them on, so the rest of us decided to go to the quaint little town of Coupsville on the neighbouring island of Whidby, access is by bridge over a very narrow pass, Deception Pass. Spectacular views as the tidal water pours through.

We had lunch at Toby’s Tavern, right on the water…. I had a big dish of the local farmed mussels, smaller than our green lipped varieties but just so tender.

Spent the rest of the afternoon just wandering around the great little shops and galleries enjoying the sun and relaxing.

Got home to find Ian and Terry installing a tray on the back of Ruakiwi to hold a bin, they had had a great day.

Terry grilled some great sirloin steak for tea along with Sherry’s salads and baked russet potatoes…..and some very good red wine. Days don’t get better than this!
