Sunday August 8, Klutina Salmon Charters, Klutina

As you can see by the photos, today has been one of those days that Ian will never forget. He left camp at 4.30am with Erick Nickell the guide and owner of the camp and headed up river by jet boat. The rods are supplied and salmon eggs are used for bait. It wasn’t long before Ian had hooked his first king, it came in at about 35lb so he decided to release it as you are only allowed to keep 1 king salmon a year. A good call as the next fish really tested him, 20 minutes of a good fight before he produced a 50lb Buck (male) king salmon. Erick took a video clip of him during the fight and it sure looked really exciting and hard work. He continued to fish and caught and released 8 more, one of which was 60lb, hard to believe. Erick said it is the most fish he has ever seen one person catch, they really hit the right spot.
Anyone wanting to catch King Salmon in Alaska, this place just can’t be beaten…. www.klutinasalmoncharters.com  Erick and his wife Dianne are great camp hosts, there is a really friendly atmosphere, magnificent location and there are not the crowds as we have come across in other fishing spots in Alaska.
Can't wipe the smile off his face!
We decided to spend another day here soaking up the atmosphere, a good call as the sun has been shining all day.  Will be having fresh king salmon for dinner tonight, evidently it is even better than the sockeye although find that hard to believe, what we had last night was just so good.
Ian is off trying his luck for some sockeye, we saw a number getting caught last night, so will add to this blog later if he gets any!
