Wednesday July 28, Waterfront campground, Seward, AK

The headlines in today Anchorage Daily News says it all….Anchorage endures a summer in name only!” The positive news of the day though is it hasn’t rained….but do wish the cloud would lift and and the sun come out.
Todays drive to Seward was quite short but very pleasant following rivers and lakes. The low clouds hung around the mountains.
Exit Glacier is just out of Seward, and a short drive up a side road. Needed some exercise so took the mile hike up to the face of the glacier, really well worth while and got some great views. The colours deep in the crevices are so intense. We were too early to take a guided tour with the Park Ranger which was a shame, but meant waiting an extra 2 hours.
Seward has a busy harbour and a port for the cruise ships although there were none in today. There is a really big shorefront which has been turned into a council run campground, with most of the sites backing onto the shore so after a visit to the library to get a wifi link we found a great campsite overlooking the harbour.
Walked into town and checked out the shops, and came across a delightful little wool store…A Flyin’ Skein.
Opened the door and three really friendly ladies were sitting knitting. Just had to have a chat and get my camera out…and buy another ball of wool for my blanket. I know the Ladies are going to be checking on the blog, they wanted to see their photo and also a picture of my Memory Blanket Project, so got Ian to take a photo of me with it tonight.….it is growing, but still a long way to go! Haven’t been driving long distances lately!
We sat outside tonight…with our sweaters on..and watched all the boat traffic, it really is a busy port. Enjoyed watching a sea otter who was playing around just off the shore.
Would like to take a half day cruise out to see the fjords from the water but the weather is putting us off a bit, will wait and see what tomorrow brings.

Kiaora Travellors, at home on friday night after a long week at work. The news this evening had a story about a Grizzly which attacked three people camping in tents at Yellowstone, one person died. Be very careful.Winter is kinder than last year so far, but still a long time before summer. We all well and enjoying your stories.
Lots of love, Ed.
