Sunday June 6, Finley Park, Flathead Lake, MO

Miles 90 – Out of interest will try and keep a track of each days mileage this year.

Back beside a lake, and in the same spot as we camped last year on our way to Richard and Casey’s. We are retracing our route a bit as we head up to Fernie in British Colombia to catch up with Rennie and Jacqui. We loved it here so much last year, thought it was a good place to start our travels.
It was really sad saying goodbye to the Massey’s, but will catch up with them again in New Zealand next year. Before we left this morning we all went out in Rambo….Ian’s official name for the new wagon, and had a look at the house that Richard and Rennie have just finished building and have already sold. It’s got a real kiwi flavour to it, and the Missoulian’s just love their buildings. Concrete benchtops and floors, corrugated iron features on the exterior and some quirky pipe fittings. It is a cheaper construction aimed for the first home buyer who want something with a bit of character.
We stopped at a big outdoor centre before leaving town, for Ian to check out the fishing rods….goods are cheaper here than Canada, so it seemed to make sense to shop for these before we cross the border. He’s planning on trying to catch some Alaskan salmon on our trip north and had brought the reels with him from NZ. Left with a 2 piece fly rod …will keep you posted on the christening of it.
It was interesting driving over the same road….it was so green today compared with the dried up pasture of last autumn, and great to see the snow capped peaks. It rained most of the drive but cleared by the time we got to the lake.
Got talking to a few of the other campers and when one saw my camera he pointed me in the direction of an osprey nest high in a tree. Have just bought a 1.4 extender for my 70 – 200 lens (this is for the photogs!) so a good chance to try it out, quite pleased with the results. Tried to find out what was the difference between and osprey and a bald eagle, but no one had a definitive answer, will have to read up on it.
It’s a wet cold evening, both of us quite full up with colds, it will be an early night.
