Saturday June 5, Missoula, MO
Today was the day of the Placenta Party, the sun shone and the temperatures rose at last. Casey was super organized with the food laid out on the table, orange juice, wine and beer in the cooler and from 10 the families started to arrived. They have so many friends, all with 1 or 2 little ones….and girls out number the boys by about 10 to 1……there is going to be fun in the years ahead! Such a relaxed morning, sitting around and chatting, and the star slept through most of the party.
But she was there for the planting, Richard dug a big hole in the garden under the roadside trees and Casey unwrapped the placenta. Somehow when I had the boys, the placentas mysteriously disappeared and I had never laid eyes on one before, couldn’t get over the size of it especially the cord. Casey made a very moving little speech that brought tears to my eyes, and under the watchful eyes of Moana and her friends…and Pukunui the Newfoundland , it was buried in the hole and the rhododendron planted.
What a special start to our holiday.
The afternoon was for mundane things, off to the supermarket for Ian and I to stock up Ruakiwi ready for the trip. I have managed to get a head cold, so feel a little underpar….somehow comes with the travel and temperature changes.
Richard was back at work on the straw bale house in the afternoon, the plastering had started. We all joined him in the evening to check on the progress and had a few drinks with the workers and some Texmex food….yummy.
It has been a wonderful few days staying here with the Masseys, just being part of their family and meeting their friends. After getting the cold shoulder for a start, Moana has decided that Ian is pretty good…and she has given him a nickname…Ratbag! If she needs him for something, its “Hey Ratbag”. Just cracks us up.
Having Wifi at the Masseys has meant I could get a daily blog up, but from now on it might be a bit more erratic...keep watching!
