Tuesday September 22, Polson MT

This amazing weather continues, a cool start to the morning followed by endless blue skies and temperatures in the low 20’s.

We drove north along the edge of Flathead Lake to Big Fork, so picturesque with small cherry orchards running down to the lake and little cottages. A shame the cherry season has finished as the road was lined with little stalls.

Big Fork is a very pretty town with many galleries and specialty shops and at this time of the year it was so pleasant to be able to wander around without the huge crowds of summer. Enjoyed lunch in a little café before continuing our trip around the lake. We were told that out of the 300 biggest lakes in the world, Flathead is rated as the cleanest and you can see by the clarity of the water. I wonder where NZ lakes fit into that.

Arrived in Polson mid afternoon and took Ruakiwi to the car wash to give her a big cleanup. Booked into an RV resort tonight for 2 days, not our normal sort of camp, but ideal for us to give the van a wax and I can get all the laundry done and pack our bags ready for our flights on Friday.

It is a very pleasant camp, there seems to be a lot of people from the south spending their summer in a cooler climate. I was told about a knitting group that was meeting in the recreation room so popped over and quite enjoyed having a chat with them all. Knitting appears to have quite a resurgence in the US with some really modern looking work getting done.
