August 9 Saturday Municipal Campground, Ottawa, ON
Today was a big day….first visit to a major city…and we managed it really well….thanks to “Emily”!
Took a meandering route from Renfrew into Ottawa, passing through some small areas of cropping and farm land. Stopped on the outskirts of the city to pick up a few bits and pieces, and have a cup of coffee. Set Emily to take us to Parliament Buildings, and we got there without a mistake. The roads and streets were quite busy with tourists and visitors even though it was the weekend. Managed to find a parking lot where we parked for $5…can’t get Ruakiwi into parking buildings! Walked into the centre of town, and people everywhere. There was a commemoration day for WW1 taking place, so quite a few army personal around from different countries. Some wonderful old architecture in the parliament buildings and surrounding areas, and lots of trees and green parks. Fascinated with the locks that go through town…will try and do a boat trip tomorrow. Wandered around, enjoyed people watching, all cultures seemed to be represented. Found our way back to the carpark and headed out to the campground, about 15 mins out of town, just in time, as the rain started….evidently they have had rain on most days this summer. Just down the road from the camp, a huge equestrian event was underway, with huge areas of tent covered stables. Understand competitors from all over North America were there.
