August 14 Wednesday Lac Sutckley, Southern Quebec
A bit later start after a big day yesterday, it was 10 by the time we left the park after downloading our mail. We had decided to head south east from Montreal for a few days before arriving in Quebec city on Saturday, so set the GPS to take a route out of the city on the Western end of Montreal on the 138. It was a good call, and although there was plenty of traffic, we managed well and felt relieved to reach some quieter roads. Meandered through the countyside, keeping off the main highways, and passing through smaller towns. Jilly had a few hiccups.. or maybe it was me, but seemed to have a day where we had to alter direction a bit! Anyway the countryside was interesting, quite varied. A lot of cropping of both vegetables and corn and soya. Also areas of pip fruit, although the apples are only just ripening. Then into the hills where there are a lot of ski fields and “ski town”. Obviously a big holiday area being close to Montreal, and in particular the town and homes around Lac-Brome looked very affluent. Also many equestrian stables.
Ended up in the hills at a very nice camp in the trees, close to Lac Stukely. It was 5 when we arrived, and both of us felling quite jaded, so had a quiet beer, then got the bikes and off for a ride around the camp and down to the marina on the lake. Lots and lots of pontoon boats tied up. We are realizing that many people have permanent holiday caravans set up within campgrounds, not the normal bach as we know it, They are transportable so only wide enough for road transport, but they often have add-ons like push outs in caravans, and then have a deck out the front, and all very close but seem so popular.
