August 12, Tuesday Parc Mont Laval, Montreal, QC

Well we have arrived in Montreal, in one of the suburbs called Laval. We heard the weather forecast on the radio this morning, and the chap said “Same as the last 2 months, fine periods, some rain, and possibilities of thunderstorms”….and that is what we got, once again. Spectacular lightning, huge thunder and very localized heavy rain.
Took a back road out of Labelle, an easy start to the day, and by the time we joined the main road south, The Trans Canadian, we were on a mulit lane highway. Ian could relax and cars could pass with worrying us. First stop was at Mont Tremblant, a very popular ski town in the mountains, but also popular with bikers in the summer time. We wondered the streets feeling like we were in a French town, not an English sign anywhere, and everyone speaking French, although most people can speak varying amounts of English. Did a bit of shopping for the grandies, and sat on the pavement with a cappuccino. Called into the grocery store which was the best we have been in, a huge selection of gourmet products, just enjoyed wandering through the deli section and amazed at the huge variety of products that I have never seen before.
Then on the road south, wandering how hard it was going to be finding our way into Montreal. Everyone we have spoken to in Canada warned us not to drive in the city. We had booked a campground last night in a suburb called Laval, so set the GPS up with the details, and cannot imagine how we could have done it using maps. Jilly is amazing, guiding us through a myriad of interchanges on the motorways with plenty of time to get into the right lanes. The campground is brilliant, arrived about 3 for a relaxed afternoon.
Will spend tonight working out how to get ourselves into the centre of the city using a bus that stops at the gate and goes to the metro station, then taking the metro into the city…..another challenge for us!
