Farewell dinner with Conny and Hitten
|
Finally heard from our potential buyer today, he is very keen
and wants it but he has made further enquiries with the Customs department and
it appears that he would need to make an appointment with them to let them view
the vehicle, they would then put their value on it and charge duty and taxes on
that value, not on what he purchased it for. And an appointment can take 2 -3
weeks. So that is the end of selling in Germany.
Last night we had a farewell dinner with Conny and Hitten,
and went to a nearby restaurant and had a very good traditional German
Schnitzel meal. It was such a balmy evening when they dropped us off that we
sat outside with a night cap and watched the distant lightning. About midnight
we were woken up with the most violent thunder storm that we have ever been in.
It rained and blew as the storm got closer and then we had overhead thunder
that rocked the van. And it continued for almost 2 hours, and felt a bit
concerned that some of the trees around us may fall, but we survived.
Today I have booked a site at Geertruidenberg in Holland to
go tomorrow and made a ferry booking back to UK from the Hook of Holland on
Sunday, our usual return. We have been
very busy with Google looking for information. We still can’t list the
motorhome as no UK phone number, but once we get to UK I will get a number with
UK Lebara card. It certainly is keeping the brain cells busy!
We have such wonderful hosts here, Wolfgang and Christiana.
He was an arborist and built their house, and he invited Ian into his workshop this
afternoon where he does amazing wood turning. Ian was really in his happy place.
We had noticed his maori influenced tattoos, and he told us that they were done
by a New Zealander who works in a German tattoo parlour for 3 months every year.
We will be sorry to leave tomorrow, they have made us feel so welcome.
