Leisure boats on the Gota Canal |
Another good day on the road, had a bit of drizzle this morning but it soon cleared. Did our morning itinerary check and came upon this town right on the Gota Canal, less than 3 hours drive away. Organised Jilly and once again changed her route to some more back country roads. First stop this morning was at a nearby Lidl to pick up some buns for lunch and some fresh fruit. Then a bit of main road driving before turning off onto a lesser road. Very enjoyable driving through a variety of rural landscape and small towns. Had a lunch break at a layby on the highway and then it was off to the town of Valdermarsvik with a marina on a lake as we had seen there was a spot where we could empty our toilet cassette. In Sweden they allow a lot of “wild camping” and our app has so many options of where to stay, but they are not like a campgrounds and have no “ablution” facilites. So we need to make sure we find places to empty and refill with water. Job done and then back on the highway and into Soderkoping.
What a neat town, quite historic with some cobbled streets and outdoor cafes. Found our wild camping spot on a very quiet area and already 2 other campers using it too. Walked about 10 minutes into town and really enjoyed meandering around and then along the edge of the canal where there were just so many boats moored. Looking forward to our ride along part of it tomorrow. It’s been a very pleasantly warm afternoon and it seemed perfect to find a spot to enjoy a local beer!
Noticing the nights are getting shorter. Last night at 11 when we went to bed it was still quite light, and when I got up to the loo at 3.30am it was already getting light. As we go north there will be even less night!
For the "Forester"..these have been thinned and limbed up! |

The Marina at Valdermarsvik |
Not sure what this construction is, that is behind the church in Soderkoping. A coat of pitch had just been applied. Love to know about it. |
These installations in the rather murky looking stream in town put a smile on my face. |
