Ruakiwi surveying the weather this morning,
and a play with my camera!

Had a very peaceful night in wild camping spot, woke this morning to spits on the roof which soon turned to quite heavy rain. A perfect excuse for a leisurely morning, and when the rain eased off we popped our coats on and walked to a local supermarket to get some buns for lunch and found a very large hardware/electrical store next door … perfect for a browse.

The sun came out after lunch, Ian got the bikes out and we had a very easy jaunt down the canal to the entrance from the Baltic Sea. Enjoyed watching some boats passing through the lock and into the canal. The construction of the canal started almost 200 years ago, and it passes through a number of lakes and another canal at the end before entering the Trollhattan Canal and the North Sea, a total of 190km. Read that in the winter it freezes over and long distance ice skaters love it. Today mainly leisure boats and yachts use the canal, a very popular summer trip.

We are staying on here tonight and already another motorhome has joined us.

The canal is a bit murky!

The Lock Keepers house.

A rather interesting fungi

A brick "folly" welcoming sailors
to the canal....and it seems the
birds enjoy sitting there as well.

A marina after the lock with a rather popular cafe.

Ruakiwi does look rather down, a good opening photo, them upwards from there. A lovely area for cycling along the canals, very picturesque
