Saturday June 29, Macugnaga

Evening light in the mountains.

There was a bit of cloud cover this morning, I went for a bit of a walk with my camera before breakfast and it was rather nice to get some more “moody” shots of the mountains, rather than with the bright blue sky.
Took a track that follows the river down to the next bridge and walked into the main village area of Macugnaga, with its wonderful old alpine houses and found our way to the chairlift. There were two stages, the first was in a smaller gondola then it was into a bigger one that carried us right up the mountain to almost 3000 metres. It wasn’t long before we were in the clouds and very surprised to arrive at the top and into the snow, with people skiing.  Couldn’t get very far as we didn’t have the right footwear but stopped at the café for a coffee and to watch the comings and goings. Felt quite surreal to be up here in the snow after the heat of yesterday.  Great views coming down of the valley and the glaciers. Such picturesque country, our first real taste of the Alps.
The afternoon was warming up as we walked home but not as hot as yesterday. Have had a really relaxing day and this evening went for a walk up the valley as the sun was setting over the alps. The air is so fresh and nice to feel cooler.
Morning cloud.

A good place to cool off!

Amazing views from the chairlift.

A few wildflowers I picked on our way back from
town this afternoon.....loving the many varieties.

As the sun was dipping behind the mountains there
was some great light.
