On the Med....Italian side!
Waiting for summer to arrive.

Tonight, we were able to sit outside for much of the evening in the sun, a first on this trip, although on our drive here this afternoon we were hit by a very brief but powerful rain and hail storm that once again had us thinking we needed to pull over. But it quickly passed by.
It was time today to have a change from walking towns and cities, with a route that took us south on some good secondary roads through the Tuscan countryside with breath taking views over rolling hills that were covered in wheat fields and wild flowers and then through forested areas.  It was so different to where we have travelled previously and thoroughly enjoyed it. The sky was pretty hazy and the light was quite flat for photography but tried to capture the iconic Tuscan landscape with the stone buildings and cypress lined driveways dotting the hills. Found a good stop for lunch with great views up to the town of Volterra.
We joined Route 68, a busier road that took us west towards the coast, then it was even busier as we hit SH1, a double lane motorway. And the surface was very bumpy to say the least. Found the location for a Sosta, which is an Italian parking area for campers, about 200 metres walk from the Mediterranean Coast. Unfortunately, there seems to be nowhere that you can camp and view the ocean, but this was pretty good especially as it is off season and only 3 campers are overnighting with us. We wandered down to the beach and had a walk and a paddle…. surprised that the sea wasn’t too cold, although didn’t fancy a swim!
A very pleasant evening and chatted at length with a German couple who have camped at this spot on a number of occasions.

The weather was coming in again...beautiful Tuscany.
