The Gorge walk |
A stunning morning with clear blue skies and a great day to walk a section of the River Cares Gorge. The gorge starts at Cain and we took the 30 minute bus trip from camp along a very windy and narrow road, certainly would not be wanting to drive this. At times we met vehicles which meant either the bus or them backing up. Good to be a passenger and watching. It was a spectacular drive through the mountains to the village.
This is an extremely popular 12km walk from Cain to Poncebos and many hikers do a return trip in a day!! Ian wasn’t sure how far he would get but we headed off along the track. It was stunning, as it passed beside the river, over bridges and through tunnels carved into the rock wall, all the time with the mountains towering above. There were sections where the path had a sheer drop down to the river…I was very careful. We ended up doing a 5km round trip walk, thoroughly enjoyed it and Ian rocked up really well. There were lots of cafes in town, it was quite warm and we had a wait for the return bus….so enjoyed a sit and a cold beer.
We
met Jeff and Heidi, a very nice English couple who were staying at the camp and
also doing the walk. They went halfway and returned and tomorrow will drive to
the other end and walk the other half. Had a good chat and Jeff shared lots of
info about places to visit and stay.
Ian
has managed to pick up a good old fashioned head cold….just hoping he keeps it
to himself! And he also photo bombed a number of my shots from today...and there are lots!

"Ghostly"! |
There are lots of well fed cats around the village, just like this one who is waiting for a feed from the hikers!! |
Stunning scenery |
Waiting for the bus back to camp. |
