Yummy local figs

Another day at Regua, good to chill out, although there was no chilling today as temperatures rose to well in the 30’s this afternoon. Had heard it was going to be a hot one so set to this morning to do some chores while it was cool. A good opportunity to wash the van as we have a tap beside us. Poor old Ruakiwi was looking a tad unloved after over two months on the road without being washed. I was a domestic goddess and had a good clean out and tidy up as wells.
Our French neighbour Jean Pierre has become a good friend, he has been here for three months and knows all the ins and outs about town so when we said we needed to ride to the supermarket to get a few things he was adamant that he was going to show us where to go. It was good to be out riding again and JP had us ducking and diving through the traffic and ended up at Lidl. Filled the panier bags with some essentials and home again, by which time it was really warming up. Sat outside under the shade of a tree with a sandwich…and a cold one.
We had a very pleasant evening enjoying the company of Jean Pierre and Claude, a South African guy in his early 70’s who is cycling around Portugal, and sleeping in his tent. So good to share stories with these people. And I haven’t taken a photo all day, a rest after yesterday! The figs were from a local lady selling them at the camp, although they are small, I have never eaten such sweet figs.  Have really enjoyed our “stayput” time here, feeling very relaxed and ready to get back on the road tomorrow.

Dear Meg and Ian, pleased to read of relaxing days and no mention of a cold, holidays are supposed to be fun times. You are a Goddess domestic or other wise. Glorious warm day in Richmond, I am working part time for a local Forestry company, shear luxury to just work the days I choose, not Mondays cause they are too close to the weekend. A new development for me is an interest in growing stuff, have been enjoying a small no of meals of aspargus planted last year and now supposed to let them grow out to make a strong plant for future years, still tempted to take the odd spear and eat raw cause I can. Thank you for sharing your adventures.
Lots of Love
Ed.
