Delightful view in the late evening (8pm) behind camping spot

It’s been a bit of a “roadie” today as we decided to put a few more k’s on as we head South. We are aware that the coast gets very busy in early July and we want time to enjoy it before then…and before it gets too hot.
Picked up a small loaf of brown bread from the Boulangerie in town then through quite a few small country towns before getting to the N10, a sort of motorway without tolls. We are trying to avoid using the “A” roads – the big motorways where tolls are charged. The N10 was not quite so pretty as the smaller roads but it moved us a long at a good pace, skirting us around the large town of Balfour before stopping in Vesoul for a lunch break. Found an Aire just out of town beside a manmade lake where we knew we could park easily. With the motorhome, it is not easy to get into the larger towns and unless we have a good reason to visit we tend to avoid them.
We spotted the town of Gray on the map and read about an Aire very near town, so decided to take the smaller D roads and head for it. What a great call, the drive was wonderful through rolling hills with fields of cattle, trees and small towns. So pretty. Lots of Limousin cattle. The roads were not too busy which made for a very pleasant drive.

Drive by shots through the little villages
Not sure what this was all about in this town.

We have seen huge stacks of firewood like this, everywhere.

Turned out to be an excellent spot, only 50 metres from the quite sizeable Saone River and at only €5 a night including electricity and all facilities, it doesn’t get better. We are only about 1 km from the centre of town so looking forward to exploring tomorrow.
I wandered out late afternoon to get some photos of the cattle in the field behind us and as usual said Bonjour to our neighbours…then realised that one had a GB number plate. Met Mandy from England who is travelling with her dog and we were the first English people she had come across in her 2 weeks on the road – we are the same! Ended up sitting in the sun with a glass of wine chatting about life on the road. The weather for most of the day has been cooler than the highs of yesterday but by late afternoon it was up to the mid 20’s.
Picture perfect views out over the country.
Nice campsite. Storm started to come in, but it never made it.
