Loved the old buildings in Pesmes

Today has been one of those days that started off very well, had some hiccups this afternoon but finished on a good note. Woke to a nice sunny morning, Ian helped Mandy fix a bumper on her campervan before she headed off.
We picked up a few supplies then off to Pesmes, a village that I had read about in a book titled the “The Most Beautiful Villages of France”. I had borrowed the book from our Rotorua library and really enjoyed it so ordered it from Amazon to travel with. Parked in the local carpark and went for a walk around the village, and although it was a really nice place with so many historic buildings I didn’t quite see its reputation for being in the book, and interestingly Mandy had visited another village from the book and said exactly the same thing.
Pesmes.

Must have been a good party!

Continued south and spotted a cycle store in the town of Dole. I wanted to get a cycle bag for the front of my bike to carry my DSLR camera and so far had not seen a decent store. It was about 12.30 and when we arrived found that as with most of France, stores close from 12 until 2, a tradition that we are finding difficult to get used to. We wandered around a large supermarket type of store that was open, then had lunch in the van before returning to the store. We were very pleased that the guy spoke a little English and he checked out my bike to see what sort of fitting was needed to attach the bag. Got it all sorted and it was almost 3 when we left town.
Had found an Aire in a town that evidently was beside a bike path and we were keen to go for a ride. Arrived only to find that it was really grotty and not at all inviting. Quick rethink and headed for an Aire on a lake not too far away, but it wasn’t very good either, then onto another on the lake and once again a rather uninviting place. So headed back into Orgelet to a town Aire which turned out to be a great little spot, very close to the centre of the village and quite a few other campers here too…and it is free! So finally it was well after 6 when we sat in the sun and had a very enjoyable and well deserved wine. After dinner I set off with my camera and walked through town as the sun was getting low, really nice light. Interesting though Jilly took us down a very narrow lane to the park and it was not until I walked up the road that I saw the sign that said “Narrow Road – Make a U turn”!! The main road in was a little further on. Never know when to trust Jilly.
Have really enjoyed driving in this region which is not far from the Swiss border, guess you would call it the Alps but not that high and very bushed covered.
The countryside with villages dotted everywhere.

Orgelet - evening light on the church, the trees look to have
been pruned to an inch of their lives.

Evening light and shadows from the trees.
