Wednesday September 14th Near Gaupne

View from the waterfall...spot Ruakiwi, parked in the distance by the road,

(Writing this on Thursday as camped with Conny and Gerhart last night and we had a very good evening and late to bed!!! It will be a short blog!)
It was a perfect start to our day with the sun shining although I did pop out early and there were some dark clouds over the mountains but they soon cleared. Across the valley there was a huge waterfall so after breakfast we put our boots on and hiked up to the waterfall, just love this wilderness area with the alpine plants and rocks. A perfect start to the day.
Continued on along 15 with the golden autumn colours just breathtaking. We descended into Lom through a valley, and stopped in a large carpark beside a Stave Church. Just about to have lunch and were delighted to see Conny and Gerhart, the German friends we met a few days ago, pull in beside us. Had a great catch up and then we all went and had a look around the church. This was in such great order and for once, it was open, for a fee. What an amazing building and so enjoyed finally getting to see the inside.
We travelled together during the afternoon along HW55 up into the mountains, climbing all the way to almost 1500 metres, and we were right amongst the glaciers, a really barren but amazing landscape. The weather changed and the rain started coming in so our very steep descent down the other side to the fjord at Skjolden in the rain along with more hairpins was not the most pleasant of drives. But we made it and continued on in the misty rain which finally stopped to reveal the calm misty waters of the glacier.
We decided that we would overnight with C & G so they lead the way and found a campsite up a 2 km gravel road arriving about 6pm. It was quite mild so we pulled out the chairs and table and some wine (!) and had a marvellous evening with a shared dinner. This is a part of motor homing that I really love and with the language issues there have been very few people who speak good enough English to really be able to have a conversation with.

Stunning photos Meg. I'm now wondering where they got the wood from for that beautiful church.
