Saturday 10th September Halsa to Kristiansund

A bright spot on a dull day in the little community garden near the camp site

A bit of a sluggish start this morning, another grey day with spits of rain, certainly doesn’t make you jump out of bed in a hurry! It was 10 when we were organised and hit the road and a short drive to the ferry then a 30 minute wait. We have been a bit sneaky with the ferries like most people in motorhomes as when they ask what length we are, we understate it andsay 6.9 metres instead of the 7.4 metres, but it puts us in a lesser price range. But today we noticed the guy working out how long we were so we had to pay in the under 8m bracket!
A stop at a store to pick up some fresh supplies then on into Krisitansund, and then the rain really started, just bucketing down. Pretty dismal in fact. Crossing over to the island we entered a 6.7km tunnel that took us right under the sea. I know I keep saying it be we really are so impressed with the way Norwegians deal with roading issues. And for Aucklander’s, I really don’t know why they just don’t get on and put another tunnel under the harbour, put a toll on it until it is paid for and be done with it.
I had read about a Marine Museum so put the address in Jilly as a starting point to look around this town. Well sometimes you get really lucky as right beside the museum we spotted a carpark with about 6 other campers already set up, and a spot for Ruakiwi with a view looking down the marina and into town. Seemed like a perfect place to stop for a few days and recharge our batteries. We had a late lunch as the rain continued, we decided it was a perfect afternoon for a kip. And by 3 o’clock, the rain stopped, the sun came out and we put on our happy faces! Walking boots on and a raincoat just in case and we headed for a really good walk right along the harbour and the boats and into town. Amazing to find some really big ships tied up right beside the road. The Hurtigruten Coastal Boat came into port for a brief stop of about 30 minutes. The passengers swarmed through town then they were back on board and off down the coast. It is evidently a very popular cruise and a great way of seeing the fjords.
It feels so good without the rain and to be able to get out and about. And the “neighbour”, tells us that the weather tomorrow might not be too flash but some pretty good stuff coming next week. Finger’s crossed as the south of France was starting to look rather inviting!
Another dismal day!

...but then the sun came out in Kristiansund

And a walk through the boat yards and into town.

Never seen these before..these guys were having fun.

A perfect spot...and Ruakiwi 2 looks quite small compared with the two on the left!

Super series of images Meg..especially the marine details and reflections. Enjoying plotting your journey on the map that sits permanently on the desk beside the computer.
