Wednesday July 6 Hong Kong – Heathrow – Boston (Lincolnshire)
A very wet Hong Kong |
The 12 hour flight seemed very long, maybe we are used to
doing the long hauls overnight when you can pass a good bit of time sleeping.
But watched about 3 movies and did nod off for short periods. There was a huge
amount of turbulence so seat belts on for much of the flight. Ian travelled
well even with his heavy cold.
Arrived at Heathrow on time at 3.15 but another half hour wait on the tarmac as our gate was still occupied. Finally through to border control and the queues went on forever. It was finally 5.15 when we collected our luggage and Steve was there waiting patiently. A welcome sight. We had finally arrived in London.

We were all eyes taking everything in as we left town and
headed north on the M1. Our first impressions were of surprise to see so much
green land, trees and fields either cropped or with stock on so soon after
leaving the airport. Somehow imagined with the number of people in this country
we would be seeing a lot more housing.
There were quick glimpses of old stone churches nestled
in among groups of houses and trees, and even some thatched cottages.
A stop at a service centre for some refreshments then
onto Boston. By this stage I was finding it hard to keep the eye’s open.
Arrived home at 8.45 to a warm welcome from Kathy who had a light meal of ham
and salad ready for us. They are seasoned long haul travelers and know what
you need after long flights. After a blissful shower we were in bed by 10pm,
and slept for a solid 10 ½ hours.
Very surprised this time as we both wore compression stockings for both flights and ended up with very little swelling in our feet and ankles. A real bonus.
