What a
great day, feel as though we are back in “traveller” mode. It was a very grey
cold start to the day as we set off into the heart of Santa Fe this morning. Found on a tourist map
that you could park RV’s in the cathedral carpark in town, so set the GPS for
that and had an easy drive in with very light traffic. It was only about 6
degrees C when we parked so dressed with some extra coats, then headed off to Canyon Road which
we had heard about…..it is a narrow street lined with close to a hundred
galleries featuring all sorts of art from Native American to very contemporary.
They are housed in old adobe buildings with courtyards, and we so enjoyed just
walking along the street. First stop was a good café with a wonderful fire to
sit beside with our coffee. The sun started to come out as we meandered along,
poking into different galleries, although I am sure you would need days to see
everything. The cottonwood trees around many of the building were just losing
the last of their leaves, and the light was wonderful, creating shadows on the
adobe walls.

Loved this quaint cafe with a fire going. |

Shadows everywhere! |

The cottonwood trees line the streets, some still have quite a bit of colour. |
It was
early afternoon before we got back to the RV, left our coats as once the sun
came out it warmed up really well. Wandered into the centre of town and found a
Mexican restaurant for a late lunch. The old plaza was lined with native
Americans selling their wares on the side walk, bought some earrings from
Trinnie, a delightful lady who had been selling her jewellery there for over 50
years.
Spent some
time in the Andrew Smith Gallery which had an exhibition of over 100 original
signed Ansel Adams prints ranging from the 1930’s until his death. I was in
awe!!!! Followed by the Georgia O’Keefe Gallery, one of America’s most notable artists from
the early 20’s. Loved her work.
There were
galleries and museums everywhere, but just not enough time.
It was late
afternoon when we got back to camp, the days seem to end so early with it
getting dark soon after 5pm, and certainly noticing it much cooler.
