Tuesday August 30, County Line Park, near Stella WA

A quieter today, and so far haven’t taken a photo. The day has been quite cloudy so maybe that has been the problem, but the temperatures have been much more pleasant!

Slept well in our little forest camp last night, returned back down the St Helen’s road then it was west down 503 to the Columbia River. It was a very pretty drive through tree lined roads, many deciduous trees. Often think what this would be like in the Autumn. The road followed several lakes and a dam for power generation. Pottered around the small town of Woodland, found a nice market with fresh farm produce, the peaches are soooo good at the moment, and they had field tomatoes, something which you don’t get in the Supermarkets. Noticed all the Mexican restaraunts and multi lingual signs in town so guess this is another centre for orchard workers.

We try to stay off the freeways, Ian prefers to mooch along so that he can see more, but today there was no other alternative so took the I5 north to Longview for about 10 miles.

Then back onto the highway that follows the Columbia River to the coast. Seems to be a lot of industry around the river, but finally it cleared and found a nice little County Park right on the river, only a few spots left so grabbed one. Both feeling a bit jaded after quite a bit of driving over the past few days so enjoyed putting out feet up this afternoon.

…Later. Put the camera on the tripod and got some shots down by the river as evening came in and the wind had settled. Lots of people out fishing but no one seems to be having any luck.
