Tuesday August 31, At Norene’s….still!!!!

It has been such a refreshing break to our travels to have spent the past days here in Mount Robson with Norene. The weather turned a little cooler and the mountain had a big early snowfall. There has been some light rain although yesterday the sun came out and everything looked really spectacular.
Ian’s neck has settled quite a bit and he has really been enjoying pottering around doing some “men” jobs around the house, much to Norene’s delight.
Yesterday Norene and I went for a good hike in Mt Robson Provincial Park, following the river towards the mountain. We had thought we would walk as far as McKiney Lake, but somehow there were too many photo stops along the way. The river is such a wonderful turquoise colour, and there are number of small waterfalls as it rushes down to join the Fraser River. The trees are so huge with lots of mosses growing underneath. This is a really popular hiking area and we met quite a number of people enjoying the trail.
This house is just so relaxing, a traditional log building. It started life in 1926 and has grown over the years outwards and upwards, but has maintained its history.
Planning to head back on the road again tomorrow, heading south towards Seattle and departure date of September 22nd. It will be hard to leave, it has been a pretty special time.

Hi Meg and Ian,

Sounds like a beautiful place! I know what you mean about photo ops while hiking -- it does shorten your hike!

We are in Rockaway Beach, Oregon, just north of Tillamook. We have very good friends who have a beach house here and we are about 3 miles away in a county campground within walking distance of the beach. We are about 3 tanks (fuel) from home so feel like we are very close! Will be here through the holiday, leaving probably on Tuesday.

Keep in touch -- we really enjoyed our visits with you! Tell Ian to take care of his neck -- ice or heat, whichever feels best!
