“Bald is Beautiful”!!!! Saw this written on a T-Shirt yesterday with a photo of a bald eagle. This morning leaving camp a bald eagle was sitting atop a tree right beside the road, keeping an eye on the tidal flats where another eagle and baby were eating a dead salmon. They are such striking big birds, wonderful to watch.

There were 3 cruise ships in town and people on tours were all over the place. We headed north up the main road to Whitehorse through the White Pass. The scenery once again was amazing and just as spectacular as the drive into Haines but in quite a different way. It was extremely rocky with small turquoise coloured pools of water nestled into the hollows, so still that the mountains were reflected in them.

I went for a walk across the rocks, the little alpine plants just beautiful. Ian is not walking far, he got bitten on his calf on both legs by some sort of fly when we were leaving Haines and both his lower legs are quite swollen and really sore to walk on.

We passed through the border once again, clocks forward an hour and the Canadian money back in the wallets. Saw Lake Tutshi and thought it would be a good place to stop for lunch, but have ended up camping here, right on the waters edge. There are a few other people camping here, and there are trout in the lake so why move on!

An Australian couple, Ken and Sue from Melbourne are also here, they bought their van in Vancouver at the beginning of May and have been traveling in along a very similar route to ours.

Had a good evening sitting around the campfire with Ken and Sue and Nick, another camper, who comes from Fairlie, NZ and is currently working in Whitehorse. A real Anzac night.

Monday August 16, Lake Tutshi, YT

We had intended driving to Whitehorse this morning to organize a grease and oil change for Ruakiwi, but found out that there is a public holiday in Yukon tomorrow, so that put paid to that. Decided that we might as well stay at this beautiful spot and have a quiet day.

So it really has been a rest day, apart from a long walk along the lake shore we have been really lazy, reading books and generally just being “blobs”, haven’t even taken a photo!

Last night the wind got up and all day it has been really quite gusty.

We sat around the campfire with Ken and Sue and had a wonderful “Pot luck” dinner with them in their RV, great night.

enjoyed your pics...they are wonderful. Met you in Valdez at the fish dock and am a little envious of your wide angle lens, especially after seeing your blog. Thanks for showing more of the state that we hadn't seen. The king Ian caught is great. We also successfully fished the Klutina for sockeye. Sue Klassen-Idaho
