Friday June 11th, Joanie and Jeff’s, Calgary, AB

54 Miles

The rain stopped overnight and the morning dawned overcast but with the promise of blue skies..and very very crisp. Had a bit of cabin fever after being RV Bound for most of yesterday, so dragged Ian out before breakfast and had a good walk around the camp, felt so good stretching the legs. Housework morning….takes all of 15 mintues!
Ian is trying to find some good valve extensions for the inside dual wheels to keep an eye on the pressures, after the problems with the last ones. Saw that there was a big RV centre in Calgary, punched in the address with Jilly and it was a very easy trip into town. Passed Spruce Meadows on the way in, one of the biggest Equestrian Event Centres in Canada, there were horses everywhere as the Nationals were being held (sorry Lizzy…we didn’t stop). Calgary has a population of over a million, and the motorway system is pretty busy. On these busy, unfamiliar roads we both need to concentrate to make sure we are in the right lanes and ready for the turnoffs even with the help of Jilly.
No joy at the RV centre but they sent us to an Auto parts company up the road. Ian was in seventh heaven, it was huge and everything imaginable..except the valve extenders,
Off to Canadian Tire, a big Walmart style company but still no luck…..so gave up and found a Tim Hortons for lunch and a much needed coffee.
By mid afternoon decided to cross town to Joanie and Jeff’s before the Friday afternoon traffic got too heavy, it was an easy trip.
It’s Joanies 50th birthday tomorrow and her sister Janet had flown in yesterday from Winnipeg. We sat outside soaking up the afternoon sun, with a few beers to welcome the change in weather. Joanie and Jeff arrived home from work a little later….so good to see them again, and lots to catch up with. They have a new puppy that was a rescue dog from the reservation, Scarlet, a real delight and so well behaved.
Jeff is a photographer who also works at Vistek, a large national store, so always have lots to chat about. He brought out some of his recent work, wonderful black and whites taken at Writing on Stone National Park and printed on Bamboo art paper – just superb. One of them really took my eye and the next thing I know it is being wrapped up for me, an early birthday present…something I will really treasure.

These two are great cooks, and we were spoilt once again…salmon steaks barbecued on cedar planks, and romaine heart lettuce, split in half and grilled for a few a minutes then dressed with Joanie’s special dressing. Who needs to go to a restaurant!

That Jeff sure is a pretty handy sort of a guy.
Look forward to seeing your b&w print of his.
