Wednesday September 2, Wait A Bit Camp, Donald, BC

The rain continued during the night and woke this morning to mist rolling down the valley. It was quite beautiful, but decided to wait until it cleared. Set off mid morning and stopped in Field, a really quaint town on the railway. Stopped at a neat pottery studio that Joanie and Jeff had recommended…a few more things added to the bag to bring home!. The coffee smelt good at the cafĂ© so had a cup before driving to Emerald Lake, a picture perfect spot, mountains surrounding a turquoise lake. We walked around the 5 ½ kms track that follows the lake, a really pleasant walk.

I used the new strap for the camera that I had bought on Jeff’s recommendation… a huge thanks Jeff…it is so good. The strap crosses over the shoulder and screws onto the camera in the tripod mount, the camera just hangs on the hip with no weight on the neck. www.blackrapid.com I am sold on it.

Continued on the Trans Canada to Golden, first stop was at the Farmers Market to get some fresh vegetables and cherries. Peter had mentioned a campsite that his friend stays at beside a river just west of Donald,. We couldn’t find it in any of our campbooks so asked a lady at the market. She had stayed there last weekend so was able to tell us exactly where to go, thankfully as there was no signage. The camp is about 2 kms off the main road in a forest area, and borders on a fast flowing small river. There is no charge, and wood can be gathered for fires. Found a fabulous spot in the open, right beside the river. We walked along the river and picked up quite a bit of driftwood. Ian was starting to chop it up when another camper and his wife came along with their arms full of Douglas fir…he works in the forest and said he brings wood home all the time, but it was such a wonderful gesture. They also mentioned that a mother bear and her cub wander around this area, so fingers crossed that we can spot her…at a distance.
