Sunday August 30th, Joanie and Jeff’s driveway, Calgary AB

Seems like we have been making a habit of these driveways! We have 2 lots of friends that we wanted to catch up with in the city so fortunate to be able to just park Ruakiwi outside.

After breakfast Peter and Lynne helped us plan a route that will take us through Eastern British Colombia, making sure we see all the wonderful spots. Sounds fabulous, lots of rivers and lakes and mountains, before we head into Glacier National Park and south to Missoula Montana. We have 3 ½ weeks left of our travels, and sure this part of the trip will put the” icing on the cake”.

Peter and Lynne fly out to NZ at the beginning of December and we went through all their plans for the 6 weeks they will be travelling. They have researched and come up with some wonderful places to stay…we couldn’t have done better.

Great that we will be seeing them again before long, so said our goodbyes in the afternoon and then 15 mins across town to Joanie and Jeff’s. Joanie is Barb’s sister who we stayed with in Winnipeg in July, and they both visited us on the farm in NZ, Barb first, then the following year Joanie arrived. So after 24 years, it seemed as they we just stepped back to where we all left off.

Joanie returned from NZ and went back to college and did an arts degree, majoring in textile art. I was in awe to see the fabulous weaving, dyeing and tapestry work that she completed during that time. Maybe in a small way the time at the farm where I taught her to spin and natural dye yarn had a small influence on her direction.

Jeff and I hit it off well…he is a pro photographer, and also works in a huge camera store in Calgary. Loved seeing all his work, and he also cleaned the sensor on the camera. So grateful! With their combined talents their home is full of wonderful art and design pieces.

Had a great barbecue on the back deck, and watched the sunset…it was so orange, effected by all the bush fires in BC.
