Tuesday November 13, Boston, England

A very clean looking Ruakiwi parked up for the winter,
and time for Ian to visit the hairdresser!

Seems like the end of the trip is making me a bit lazy with my blog, so a quiet afternoon and time to catch up before we travel to London tomorrow.
But the good news is that I had a really good crossing of the channel on Saturday. When we were going through border control, the officer could tell us that the morning crossing was very rough with a vehicle tipping over. Not very comforting words, but although it was a bit “jobbly” I took my pills and managed very well, and even had a snooze. Arrived in England, it was dark and the rain started soon after we left the port, making a rather difficult drive on the narrow roads and driving on the other side of the road. But after half and hour we arrived safely at the camp.
It rained most of the night and the weather wasn’t very good as we set off for Boston but it improved and had a good trip arriving late morning. Great to catch up with all the news with Kathy and Steve over a cuppa then it was on the road and off to Sunday lunch at The Brownlow Arms at Hough on the Hill. We have been here several times with Kathy and Steve and just love it, a traditional old pub that serves such great food. Of course, I couldn’t pass by the roast beef and Yorkshire pudding! It was a really good afternoon and realised on the way back that I hadn’t taken a photo!
Yesterday was clean up day, off to a nearby supermarket first thing, where they have a “hand wash and polish” business run by Eastern Europeans. We used them at the start of the trip and they did such a great job we had them give her a good clean. The afternoon was spent on the worst job of the trip, packing our bags, but eventually got it all done. Last night we watched Peter Jackson’s documentary on the First World war, “They shall never grow old”. Just so moving using the original footage which with modern technology has been cleaned up and colourised, it felt like we were watching a modern film. Certainly, a must see.
And this morning it was time to put Ruakiwi into storage for the winter, another great trip has ended. We have been spoilt with really good weather in Boston, clear blue skies and sunshine although the wind has a bit of a nip in it. Made the most of it this afternoon and went for a wander across the road to the old Boston cemetery, there was a carpet of autumn leaves and the trees were almost bare, just a few still clinging on.
Off to an Indian restaurant for dinner tonight with Steve and Kathy, and in the morning, it is time for the shuttle taxi to a hotel at Heathrow ready for our Thursday morning flight to Singapore then onto New Zealand…. and back to reality.
Checking out the olive tree with Steve and Kathy

A walk into the cemetery.

A view across the Maud Foster waterway to
Kathy and Steve's home.

We really have been spoilt with the weather.
