Pears on an old tree at the winery

After threatening last night, the rain started this morning, the winegrowers are all very happy to get some rain. The heat has been great for the vines and they are looking forward to a good season with picking starting early September. We were all feeling like a catch up lazy day after some busy times, and as this spot is just so good we decided to stay another day. Matt and Ange went for runs up into the hills….we didn’t!!!!! Had read about the neighbouring village of Oingt which is listed in The Most Beautiful Villages of France book. It seemed the perfect place to go for a lunch while it was raining. Headed off with Matt and Ange in their smaller motorhome with the rain becoming heavier. Wound up and around the hills and parked in an Aire on the outskirts, the only place for motorhome parking. Umbrellas and coats and we sloshed our way back into town in the pouring rain. Decided to have lunch first and hope the rain eased so we could look around the village. Found a really nice café and the food was really good. By the time we finished the sun was out and we wandered around the cobbled roads with the ochre coloured brick houses and delightful gardens. And of course, we had to visit the 10th century church of Saint Matthieu (Matthew was very impressed). Inside there was a large mural of Saint Matthieu and L’Ange (The angel), seemed very appropriate!!!
The views out over the surrounding countryside were superb. It was 4 o’clock when we got back to camp and time to have a wee siesta. Sat outside till late enjoying the fresh air and our last evening together. Tomorrow Matt and Ange are heading off early to do some more mountain biking, we have had so much fun over the last 4 days.

A very nice cold melon soup
